A STORY OF A PLACE

Iris Thorsteinsdottir - Photography
If you’ve found yourself here on this page, it is likely that you are needing some help in creating a portfolio of your lovely place. I’m pretty sure I can help! Below you will find some information about why it is important to create an visual portfolio along with a few examples of past photo shoots and information about the process. Hopefully you will be inspired to give it a go and I look forward to hearing from you.

Why

The images are not just a visual reference, but aim to tell a story and show the atmosphere of the place. Ideally each place should have a library of images where each image is an important factor in sharing both information and as a part of a story. Together they will form a coherent whole that captures the soul of your beautiful place. These images are not only important for your own website, but are a powerful marketing tool both for publishing and social media.

The Place

Guests base their decision to stay in a property on what the images on your website show them. The images need to show the place off in the best possible way, and to make the guests feel that they could live there happily themselves. Overview images of the spaces are incredibly important but so are also the details of your décor, food and services as they help to give a sense of personality and individuality.

Lifestyle shots are important to emulate your guests’ experiences while on vacation? Draw your guests to your property by tapping into their emotions with photographs that display a scene ready for a guest to experience.

Images of people enjoying the place can help your future guests to visualise themselves in the same situation and give them that extra initiative to book.

LOCAL GUIDE

Whenever I look for a place to go on a vacation I always miss seeing a good guide of the area and the neighbourhood attractions and of course I prefer my guides to be visual. This addition is not necessary, but I would highly recommend it. A map and images of things to do and places to see during your stay can prove invaluable. It saves your guest from having to do the research and gives them a wider view over the area and increases the likelihood of a longer stay.

PRICE £350

The Van

Meet the van (Haven’t found a name yet)  🙂 Here he is driving one of my favourite roads in Wales. As much as I would love to stay at your place then I am very happy to stay in my little Volkswagen camper if needed. This means I can still shoot those precious twilight shots while leaving the space as spotless as I found it. I am also happy to wear a mask and gloves, do a contactless photoshoot and to adhere to social distancing while shooting. Whatever you are comfortable with. This also means that I am capable of doing longer road trips and showing up and shooting on those turnover days when a night time stay is not an option.

the Drone

One of the primary benefits of using drones is getting elevated shots that provide future guests with a unique angle of a property that a regular camera can’t capture. You can capture grand atmospheric views that can give the viewer a sense of adventure and awe. It is a well worth addiction to show your space in the best way possible.

about & Contact

I’m an Icelander living in the UK. I have been fascinated with light and creating atmosphere in my environment since I remember. I got my masters of photography in San Francisco, California where I lived for many years.

Being Icelandic I grew up in an environment that is very connected to nature. This connection has made me love equally the large and dramatic as well as the beauty of the simple and small.

I currently make a living capturing interiors, food, lifestyle and travel but have exhibited my fine art work at the Royal Academy Summer exhibition along with other galleries in London and my work is in private collections both in Europe and North America.

My work has appeared or been featured in: Royal Academy of Art Summer exhibition, Hayhill gallery London, The Sunday Times, Gestalten books, Cabin Porn, New York Times, National Geographic, The Guardian Travel, The Sunday Times, Conde Nast Traveller, The San Francisco Magazine, House and Garden Magazine, Good homes magazine, Travel and Leisure, Ideal Home, Remodelista.com, Apartmenttherapy etc. and many more.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments, I’d love to hear from you.
